The Bega Challenge was held in Canberra this year, on the weekend of 16 and 17 March 2024.
Congratulations to the ACT who won back the Rashes for 2024!!!
There were 24 players each fielded by Bega and the ACT.
The ACT scored a total of 4,951 points, and Bega scored 4,407 points
ACT won 58 matches and Bega won 34.
The background to the RASHES:
The first event was held in 2007, hosted at Bega.
It was mutually decided that there should be a perpetual trophy awarded to the club that won the weekend. Both Bega and ACTMSA players contributed squash memorabilia items to form part of the trophy. The donated items were dumped into a 44 gallon drum, doused in lighter fluid and burnt to ashes! The ashes were then deposited into an urn and the RASHES were born.
Since then, the RASHES have been hotly contested each year, with playing location alternating between the ACT and Bega courts.
It’s a timed event of 25 minutes including a 5-minute warm up.
